On May 23rd 2013 many of us were stroked with a cold reality and regardless how much we search and manipulate our sites will no longer b in the same place they were. It doesn’t take a rocket engineer to figure this one out.
We are a web design company located in Miami Florida. Our rankings were decent, somehow over the years and with the literature provided on the web by thousands of SEO companies and individuals we begun to build backlinks to our site. From been on the 6 page of Google we raised our site to the 3, and then the second page. We stay on the second page of Google for quite a long time. It seemed impossible to keep climbing. Yes one day to our surprise we checked our position and zap! Suddenly we were on the first page of Google. Almost every possible key phrase and keyword related to web design in Miami we were on the main page of Google. It all begun to make sense, an update happened and it made room for us to climb.
But of course, like they say “brief moments of happiness” we enjoy of the good rankings for about 2 or 3 months when suddenly one morning we were pushed to the 2th page, and then to the third and little by little every possible keyword was eliminated. This happened on the 23rd of May 2013. We got hit by the Penguin Update!
Since then we have tried everything and there is been no result. From getting over 20 daily visits from customers looking web design services we end up in ZERO. The good thing was that we have a Spanish version of our website and because we never build backlinks pointing to the Spanish site our pages remained ranking high. But for the English pages, we end up contributing at Ad Words.
Let me tell you fellow web site owners, if you were hit by the updates, don’t waste your time trying the disavow tool or manually removing links. By all means this should be done but I am very sure you will not recover your rank because you rank was erroneously acquired in the first place. You managed a good position in Google by doing the same things we did and such techniques might had been the way to go back then, but now they are not which means that most of us end up with a useless website and we might as well start from scratch. In fact, if you intent to keep your present website then by all means remove all those bad entities. But otherwise, let it die and start a fresh website.
